PlayNitride launches four new Micro LED displays for AR/VR and automotive applications

Recently, many display brand manufacturers have launched a series of new Mini/Micro LED displays at new product launches. Most importantly, global manufacturers plan to showcase a variety of new display products at CES 2022, which will be held on January 5.But before CES 2022, Opto Taiwan 2021 has just been held in Taiwan, and companies such as PlayNitride have also brought Micro LED display products to the spotlight.
Aiming at new opportunities, PlayNitride launches four Micro LED displays. According to the on-site survey of LEDinside, PlayNitride demonstrated four new products: 37-inch FHD modular Micro LED display, 1.58-inch PM Micro LED display, 11.6-inch automotive Micro LED display and The 7.56-inch C+QD high dynamic range Micro LED display is aimed at new opportunities in vehicle display and AR/VR applications. The 37-inch FHD modular Micro LED display is assembled from 48 modules and has a seamless splicing effect. The resolution of this P0.43mm monitor is 1,920×1,080 and 59 PPI.
The 1.58-inch P0.111mm Micro LED Display is based on passive matrix technology, with a resolution of 256×256, a PPI of 228, and a color depth of 24 bits.Suitable for smart wearable devices.
The 7.56-inch P0.222mm Micro LED display supports high dynamic range (HDR) with a resolution of 720 x 480 and a PPI of 114.
The 11.6-inch P0.111mm automotive Micro LED display was jointly developed by PlayNitride and Tianma, and supports 2,480 x 960 resolution and 228 PPI.
Just a few days ago, Tianma also launched four Micro LED displays at its 2021 Micro LED Ecological Alliance event, including a 5.04-inch Micro LED modular display, a 9.38-inch transparent Micro LED display, and a 7.56-inch flexible Micro LED display. Screen and 11.6-inch rigid Micro LED display. This 11.6-inch product uses LTPS TFT technology with a resolution of 2,470 x 960 and a PPI of 228. It can be inferred from the product specifications that it is the same as the product displayed at the PlayNitride booth.According to Tianma, this is the world’s first medium-sized high-resolution Micro LED display, which can meet the high-performance display requirements of high-end automotive CID or instrument displays-the screen size is greater than 10 inches, and the PPI can be higher than 200.
Committed to Micro LED, PlayNitride plans to go public in 2022. In recent years, PlayNitride has increased its investment in Micro LED technology, partly reflected in the frequency of new product releases and technological improvements.PlayNitride plans to go public in 2022, hoping to seize the development opportunities in the Micro LED field more quickly and flexibly, especially the development opportunities in the AR/VR industry in the Metaverse Era.From the perspective of PlayNitride, the commercialization of Micro LEDs for AR/VR devices requires the coordinated development of the entire ecosystem, such as display content, optical technology, and other supporting facilities. The company estimates that Micro-LED-based AR/VR devices may be commercialized within two to three years at the earliest. In addition, PlayNitride recently received an additional investment of US$5 million from Lite-On, and Lite-On is very positive about the prospects of Micro LED.If successfully listed, PlayNitride is expected to significantly enhance its financing capabilities and capital strength, enabling it to commercialize Micro LED products faster and reduce costs. From the perspective of the entire ecosystem of Micro LED applications including AR/VR, car displays, and large-size displays, PlayNitride regards cost and commercialization as two key factors. It is expected that Micro LED costs will drop by 95% from 2020 to 2025. .
